“Morningside Triangle gsi project."

what?
A project to help reduce flood risk, improve groundwater quality, and support a healthy urban garden by maximizing water capture.
For more detailed GSI information see:

background
Neighbor Margaret Keller and a group of dedicated MTPNA residents worked with community leaders to install the GSI project at the “Morningside Triangle."
The initial design collaboration along coordination with community resulted in plans for a new sign that will include BOTH neighborhood parks:
McDuffie and Twin Parks!
Installation coming soon!

Plans include a seating boulder, native and pollinator plants adding year-round vegetative color and texture, along with a few shade trees.
For ongoing maintenance plans watch for a TBD time in January for an introductory meeting to plan for the ongoing care and upkeep of our innovative GSI Project.A great place to get involved in beautifying the neighborhood while doing something good for the planet.

Traffic Calming

Construction on this project has begun!

YAY! it sure pays off to be involved and to speak up.

background
The McDuffie-Twin Parks Traffic Calming Study was initiated by City Councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn in 2022 in response to neighborhood traffic concerns.
Below was the area found to be most problematic and subsequently studied.

Two public meetings were held, involving input from residents, and below is the resulting plan.

#1 Along Avenida del Sol, between the split off from Morningside to the intersection at Washington, speed bumps are being installed to help slow traffic.

#2 At Constitution and Morningside a midblock crossing and a bulbout on the southeast corner of Constitution and Morningside. Also, a center island will be placed on either side of that intersection along with 4 way crosswalk striping in the effort to make crossing Constitution more pedestrian friendly.

#3 At Constitution and Washington there will be a bulbout on the southwest corner along with 4 way crosswalk striping

# 3 McDuffie Park will have “No Parking” signs and striping at 5 park entrances#4 Altura Park NA at Washington & Hannett-Sunningdale will also benefit from a midblock crossing with a bulbout on northeast corner and crosswalk striping on both sides of the intersection crossing Washington.
